Fredricka Brown’s life changed in 2019 during surgery to remove the upper right lobe of her lung. During the procedure, her kidneys began to fail, and upon waking up she was informed that she had kidney disease.
Despite lifestyle changes and medical treatment, her kidney function declined to 15 percent, and she began dialysis while awaiting a transplant. After 10 months on the transplant waiting list, Fredricka received a lifesaving kidney transplant.
Today, she continues the lifelong care required after transplant, including medications, IV treatments and regular monitoring. Though it can be challenging, Fredricka is grateful for her second chance and shares her story as a LifeQuest ambassador to encourage others to consider organ donation.
Fredricka finds purpose in her journey. She relies on her faith, believing God does not make mistakes and that every experience has a reason. For Fredricka, that reason is to share her journey, encourage organ donation and show how one donor can give multiple people the gift of more time with their loved ones.
