Makayla Campa couldn’t wait to get her learner’s permit, not just to drive but to register as an organ donor. Inspired by the liver transplant that saved her grandmother’s life, she signed up at 15.

Known for her kindness and generous spirit, Makayla always wanted to help others. After the Lawton Chiles High School student was critically injured in a car accident in 2021, her family honored her wish to be an organ donor.

“She had a heart that cared about everyone and everything,” said Danyell Wilson, Makayla’s mother. “Her sweet soul could never be forgotten.”

Makayla’s Gifts of Life saved four people ranging in age from 15 to 65, ensuring her compassion continues to live on through others.

“Organ donation is not a scary thing and needs to be talked about more,” said Danyell, who serves as a LifeQuest ambassador and frequently shares Makayla’s story throughout the Tallahassee community.
